Field trips 2017

2016

1.    Viedma Glacier, Argentina, 26 February-1 March 2016

Participants: CONICET-Argentina (Dr. Maria Farias), UA-Chile (Dr. Paris Lavin), Romania-IBB (Dr. Cristina Purcarea, Dr. Aurel Persoiu, PhD student Corina Itcus), and Romania-ERIS (Dr. Alexandra Hillebrand-Voiculescu)

Sites: Ice samples were collected (a) from Viedma glacier cave at exposed and remote locations, and (b) from the glacier border that forms an open cave.

2.    Svarthamar Ice Cave, Norway, 3-9 October 2016

Participants: UoB-Norway (Prof. Lise Ovreas, Prof. Stein-Erik Laurizen, Sverre Aksdal, PhD student Christos Pennos and Hilde Rief Armo), Romania-IBB (Dr. Cristina Purcarea, Dr. Aurel Persoiu, PhD student Corina Itcus)

Samples: ice samples of up to 700 years old were collected from 7 locations of Svarthamar Ice Cave for microbiological analyses, 14 ice samples for 14C dating, and 432 ice samples for isotope analyes.

3.    Sampling location in Scarişoara Ice Cave

Participants: Romania-IBB (Dr. Cristina Purcarea, Dr. Aurel Persoiu, PhD student Corina Itcus)
